See Nigerian Music Artistes Who Have Gone Back To Being Upcoming Artiste After They Left Their Record Label

In Nigeria, the most possible way to identify a music artiste is through its record label. The record label does the necessary publicity for them to be known whether aggressively or in whatever means they can.

Being on a record label comes with a lot of advantages and one of them is the recognition it gives the artiste. However, after some time spent with a record label, artistes feels like they already know their way through the industry and go on to be on their own.

While some have made it outside of their record label, some failed woefully and have gone back to being in the ‘invisible and struggling’ phase once again.

According to a music blog, here are top Nigerian music artistes who have suffered badly after leaving their record label.

Lil Kesh

Everyone knows Lil Kesh used to be a hot cake when he was still under the YBNL umbrella. He dropped hits back to back when he was with Olamide and it was because of Lil Kesh, the YBNL boss, and Mavin boss, Don Jazzy got into a fight that year at the Headies.

When Keshi as he is fondly called was with Olamide, he got the right amount of pushes for his songs even though he wasn’t singing sensible songs, he still had lots of people jamming to his songs.

As soon as he left YBNL in 2016, things went sour for him. Most people don’t even know when he drops his new songs anymore. The YAGI boss has lost the sauce and is struggling to come back ever since.

Wande Coal

It’s quite obvious that Wande Coal has been struggling with promoting his music.

He doesn’t seem to have that push he used to get under his former record label. When he was under Mavin Records, all he had to do was sing, while Don Jazzy handled the promotion and production aspect.

His last hit songs under Mavin are “Kick,” “Rotate”. He hasn’t been getting the usual attention like he enjoyed when he was still signed under the label although, he sings really well.

When Skales was still with EME, he had the promotion push that he needed and the right advice. Now, he releases songs without structure, and it’s confusing.

Also, all his recent songs are below par unlike when he was still with EME. It seems his former label understands his pattern and they know how to make him do good songs too.

Skales have been seriously struggling ever since he left the Banky W‘s led EME label.

Chidinma was the winner of the MTN Project Fame in 2010. She joined the Capital Music record label owned by Ill Bliss which most people think was the beginning of her staggering career. She also started out as a hiphop singer but along the way, she switched to gospel music. It seems the young artiste isn’t sure what part to follow and it’s telling on her career.

Vector has been for a long time identified with YSG. And so when the issues that caused him to leave arrived, it became hard for him to continue at that pace.

He was ignored for a long time in the industry. I mean most people wonder if he is still out there. The name ‘Vector’ hasn’t felt the same ever since he left YSG.

Vector’s talent no doubt is second to none and still very dope, he lacks a proper team or plan that can push his materials out there so everyone can feel him again.

Vector can claim back his throne if everything about his brand is handled properly and professionally.

Ice Prince

When Ice Prince left Chocolate City, it was almost like he left his fame with the label. Things went out of control almost immediately.

Ice Prince used to get a lot of hype when he still belonged to the record label. Now he lacks promotion and good production. He puts in the effort to make good music no doubt, but we all know how good music with great promotion ends.

With good plans laid down and good songs dropping from his camp, Panshak will definitely be bursting speakers again.

Brymo had issues with Chocolate City Entertainment and he used the exit door.

No doubt, Brymo is a great singer and an amazing songwriter but it’s been hard for him to push his music career forward ever since he left the label.

The attention has faded but he can still get up the ladder with the right team around him.

Are you shocked to see Dbanj on the list?

Well, for a long time, D’banj was recognized with Don Jazzy and the Mohits crew. In fact, of all the crew, Dbanj was gallant as he had everything he wanted at his fingertip. He and Jazzy gave Nigerians hits back to back until they decided to call it quits.

Dbanj wanted to go global but he hasn’t been able to give Nigerians the ‘global feel’ in terms of music.

Most people feel that if he was still with Jazzy, he would still be at the top by now
